Become a WPI Applied Communications Laboratory member
As an Applied Comms Lab member, you will save time and money by outsourcing your next applied research project to our faculty and student experts. For a base annual membership fee of $37,500, you can select one of the three services:
1 month of faculty research at 40 hours per week
1 semester of graduate student research at 20 hours per week
1 year of graduate or undergraduate student workstudy at 10 hours per week
Membership benefits
- Members own the IP solution generated by research
- All research projects are kept confidential and there is no requirement for scholarly publication
- Members have access to technical resources of Applied Comms Lab and faculty labs
- Employees of members can conduct research in Applied Comms Lab facilities
- Members are part of the Applied Comms Lab advisory board
- Members develop relationships with a talent pool of WPI faculty and students
Member profiles and projects
Companies of all sizes can benefit from our cost-effective and practical model, from new start-ups to large multi-national corporations. Applied Comms Lab can accommodate companies with specific export control restrictions. At this time, we are unable to handle classified projects.
Example projects including the following:
Implementing a functional LTE base station using software defined radio (SDR) technology that can be used to assess new wireless networking configurations
Creating Internet of things prototypes using various wireless and sensing technologies in order to assess their performance across a range of different operating environments and conditions.
Producing reports on the current state-of-the-art in 5G and 6G technologies employed in different configurations, such as satellite-based 5G networks.
Testing different forms of machine learning approaches for use in wireless communication systems employed in different applications.
